Historic and modern rally cars in action on Rallye Weiz

Last weekend were many historic and also modern rally cars in action around Weiz in Austria, where competitiors competed in European Rally Championship, Central Historic European Zone, European Rally Trophy, austrian national championship (ORM), Austrian Rally Cup and Austrian Rally Challenge.

First on stages were 33 historic cars from which ones seven didn’t see finish line. From them were also two sweden drivers Mats Myrsell (retired from P3) and Anders Johnsen (retired from P4), both in Porsche 911.

Second time in this season won Luigi Battistolli, known as Lucky with codriver Fabrizia Pons in Lancia Delta Integrale 16V. They won with almost two minutes ahead another italian crew Andrea Zivian “Zippo” – Denis Piceno in Audi Quattro. Three minutes behind second crew finished Karl Wagner – Gerda Zauner in Porsche 911 SC.

In modern section of event was driving also slovenian driver Rok Turk. He was third overall and was leading in ERT section before he had accident on SS5. Stage stopped after accident and driver transported into hospital, but on luck was all ok. Also first stage was stopped due accident of crew Luif – Cerny in Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX. Codriver transported into hospital due pain in his back.

But on other side, there was really close battle between crews Wagner J. – Stein (Škoda Fabia R5) and Neubauer – Ettel (Ford Fiesta R5). Seven stages won Wagner and also seven won Neubauer. Neubauer made a mistake on Power Stage and finished 16.7 seconds behind Wagner, for who is this second win in this season. THird finished Knobloch – Rausch in Škoda Fabia R5.

Three other events in this season won Neubauer, so this will be really close battle for championship title. There are just two more events until the end, Niederosterrich Rallye in September and Rallye W4 in November.
